Always sit down while pinning. Your hips expand when seated; if you fit them perfectly while standing, you might pop a seam later.

Turn the garment inside out. Pin along the side seams, starting from the waist or mid-thigh and tapering into the existing seam.

Sew a long "baste" stitch to test the movement. Sit down to ensure it’s not too tight.
