The screen turned a blinding, clinical white. A loud, grinding sound erupted from Leo’s speakers—the sound of a hard drive being scrubbed. Then, total silence. “Error: This account does not exist
The purple Vape menu on his screen began to glitch, the text turning into unreadable symbols. Suddenly, Leo’s own avatar began to dismantle. His armor fell off, then his limbs, until he was just a floating head above the void.
The match started on the 'Solace' map. Leo didn’t bother buying wool. He toggled the 'Velocity' setting and sprinted straight into the air. His character didn't fall; he walked on nothingness, gliding across the void toward the nearest base.
Leo sat in the dark, the quiet of his room suddenly feeling very heavy. He looked at his webcam, noticing the tiny green "active" light was on. He hadn't turned it on.
