The film is a tragicomedy adapted from the bestseller by Rita Falk. It follows two 19-year-olds, (played by Leonard Scheicher) and Hannes (Johannes Nussbaum), who have been inseparable since childhood. Their lives take a drastic turn when Hannes is involved in a severe motorcycle accident that leaves him in a coma. Moritz refuses to lose hope, dedicating his life to staying by Hannes's side and documenting their shared journey in the hope that his friend will eventually wake up.
